blog
How many years ago was it? Blogging services were just starting to appear, and I had begun writing one myself.
There are people I met through that blog while I was travelling the world. It surprised me that anyone would go out of their way to come and meet someone as unknown as me.
At some point after that, I stopped writing it. Why did I stop? I hardly remember any more.
For a while I wrote essays and poems on note. I don’t do that any more either.
I once registered a domain of my own and had my own site, but I couldn’t keep it going.
In the end, writing is the one thing I have never managed to quit, and it continues even now. And then there is the camera, which I picked up because of travelling. Phone cameras got good, so I let mine go, but with a phone I hardly take pictures unless I make a point of it. So the occasions for taking photographs kept getting fewer.
Buying an SLR again after all that time, and starting over with a camera, was fun. I still don’t know why taking photographs is enjoyable. Or rather than don’t know, perhaps it is truer to say that I have deliberately left it unworded.
These days I have gone so far as to get a monochrome-only camera, and I take black-and-white photographs like the one at the top of this post.
And so, like this, I am starting a blog again. What set it off was seeing Tsuyoshi Takashiro restart his own blog after more than ten years.
Something I had been holding down inside myself felt as though it had been let go. That perhaps there had been limits I was placing on myself, all on my own.
That I no longer have to depend on any platform, and can write what I like, the way I like.
So, with that, I have started a blog with no fixed schedule. I would like to go slowly, looking back through the photographs I have been accumulating along the way.
